what we are about...

Bugs & Biology Grower Group members are focused on investigating and implementing sustainable production strategies for WA's broadacre farms, to deal with an increasingly variable climate. The motivation of the group is our perception that the existing farming system is under stress and that alternative production strategies need to be investigated.
We believe the farming community has to be proactive in scrutinizing these ideas to garner practical knowledge and skills that develop our own capacity as land and business managers.
We aim to educate ourselves to develop systems-based farming operations that increase our profit through better use of natural resources (ie. water cycling, mineral cycling and energy flow). As natural resources come for free, it is often hard to get help in this area as no commission is made along the way.
The group provides a forum for like minded farmers to share knowledge gained and educate ourselves on the relevant issues in relation to our goals in farming. Our main activity is developing and running educational events - including workshops, field days and hosting courses.
The main areas we are working on are perennial pastures, cropping in a more biological way and cell grazing. All these practices improve the
energy flow, being the conversion of sunlight into plants (carbon). It all sounds simple, but in modern farming it is easy to get sidetracked. We enjoy not
being aligned to any company’s selling products, and invite anyone involved in agriculture to join and provide a positive contribution.
